an artistic quarter (Kunstlerviertel). The faculty members of the Academy of Fine Arts, architects,
musicians and writers moved into the buildings scorned by the conservatives as "ultramodern". For
some time among the inhabitants were: Gunter Grundmann (in Hans Scharoun's hostel for singles
and newly-wed couples), Johannes Mohlzahn, Gerhard Neumann, Robert Bednorz, Georg Muche (in
Adolf Rading's high-rise), Johannes Drobek (the gallery-access block of flats designed by Paul Heim
and Albert Kempter), Heinrich Lauterbach (in row-house No. 15 of his own design), Oskar Schlemmer
(row-house No. 14 and the atelier in Adolf Rading's building), Hans Scharoun, and Theo Effenberger
(in his own 1926 house, located opposite the WUWA estate).346
