Only the semi-detached house No. 32-33, designed by Gustav Wolf, departed from the ultra-
modern style. Wolf was the principal of the Municipal School of Handicrafts and Decorative Arts
whose curriculum focused on hand-made, one-off objects. The furnishings for Wolf's house were
produced in the school workshops (furniture, lighting fixtures, curtains, upholstery fabrics, forged
iron screens, as well as glass, leather and ceramic objects). The walls of the dining room were lined
with wood panelling. The fitted cupboards in the corners gave the room its octagonal shape. The in-
laid furniture was made of pine. Both the architectural form of the building and its interiors reflected
a more traditional notion of domestic architecture, still reigning supreme in most German cities.
