THE paper, stained brown, has been damaged and repaired in many places without serious
detriment to the drawing itself. The signature and date, L 1513, are genuine; the
inscription on the arch is illegible.
The drawing was preserved till 1892, with nine others by the same artist, in a black
leather volume entitled LUCAS. TEEKENINGE 1637. The volume was bound for an
unknown Dutch collector, who also possessed the Durer drawings and MSS. afterwards
acquired by Sir Hans Sloane, and a number of volumes, uniformly bound and dated,
containing prints or drawings by Aldegrever, Amman, Bolten of Zwoll, Gerung, Stimmer,
and other artists.

THIS drawing in brown is marked with the stamp of the painter collector, P. H. Lankrink,
the assistant of Lely. The design shows in germ the principal motives of the Boar
Hunt painted by Rubens, of which the best known version is at Dresden.
