correct and opposed to truth. Of course,
there was to be perceived at its climax
some of the human verities which are
common to all humanity, oriental or
occidental, specially cupidity and avarice.
The greed to make a fortune burned
within every breast. But Mr. Premchund
was no more answerable for it than the
man in the Mars or the Moon. In the
high game of buying and selling, of course,
the gain of one is the loss of the other.
That phenomenon was to be discerned in
all its transparency. In a game of this
kind innate skill comes forcibly into play.
