The Argive Heraeum

Plate II

ARGIVE HERAEUM. — VIEW OF THE SECOND TEMPLE (V), LOOKING SOUTH FROM THE CYCLOPEAN WALL
The Gulf of Argos is on the horizon. The town of Argos is at the foot of the hill (Larisa) in the right distance. The village of Pasia is visible on a line this side of Argos, while the
villages of Chonica and Anyphi are respectively at the left and toward the centre of the picture. The two meandering roads lead down from the Heraeum to the main highway, which,
just visible, cuts the picture almost horizontally. This main road comes, on the right, from Mycenae, and goes thence easterly to Chonica, where it branches to Argos, Midea, Tiryns,
and Nauplia.
