away and the clouds rush past like Walkyres, half veiling the moon,
the rocky eastern side of Capri arouses in us purely Ossian-like, northern
sentiments, and the Palace of Tiberius, as shown in our drawing, acts
on our feelings like the fabled Castle of the King of Thule, before which,
on the gigantic altar, the flame was lit at the festival of the solstice.
This view of the distant rock-palace of the aged recluse, Tiberius,
leads us on to the closer observations to be discussed in the following
chapter.
