This interesting country, which through the great energy, intelligence, and industry of her population, has acquired
a high position amongst the chief manufacturing countries of Europe, is well represented at the Great Industrial
Exhibition. Switzerland has contributed neither specimens of her mineral nor her agricultural productions, but
chiefly those articles for which she looks for a sale in this country. She produces iron, copper, nickel, cobalt, surer,

lead, and zinc, but not in quantity sufficient for home consumption. Of the thirty-two cantons in which this country
is divided, only nine of them produce corn enough for the supply of their population; Switzerland is, therefore, an
importer, and not an exporter, of mineral and agricultural produce.

Switzerland has forwarded to the Exhibition a great Yariety of specimens ot the productions of their looms and
workshops. The great abundance oi water-power is of essential service to the manufactures of this country. In the
