The silver pheasant will require great delicacy in the colouring.
The first tint that should be laid on the head and neck os the bird is a
dark wash of indigo; this should not be spread all over the head and
neck, but merely at the outline, so that a large space is left white
round the eye and in the projecting part os the neck. While the
indigo is wet make a tint os strong lake, and wash all round the eye.
When the lake touches the indigo it will mix with it, and sorm that

care should be taken that the lake is not laid on too thin, as in that
case it will mix with the body os the indigo, and the latter colour will
run among the lake, and spoil it. The white space lest on the neck
is silled up with a strong tint os gamboge; this is likewise sostened
into the blue, and produces a bright green : it is washed off towards
the back os the bird, so that the upper part of the wings receive a
very slight tinge os green. The breast and thighs are dark indigo,
approaching to black ; the touches on the seathers giving them the
appearance os scales, are a light tint of the same colour. The legs
and beak are yellow ochre and a little indian red.
The prevailing colour os the golden pheasant is a bright yellow;
a bright wash os gamboge may, therefore, be taken over the whole os
the bird, with the exception os a small space round the eye, which,
being a pale pink, should be lest white, without any mixture os the
yellow. The crown os the head is coloured with a bright tint os
