TURKISH ARMY.

« Mahomed, Pacha of Cairo, who has taken,
no one knows why, the title of viceroy of
Egypt, does not command the troops in per-
son. Muhammed-aly Sun-Chersemc, who
had the command before my arrival, was
killed before Ghiza. They are now under the
orders of Juseph Kiahia. Tahir is the Pacha
- of the Arnauts, who compose the great ma-
jority of this army, amounting to 16,000 men,
distributed as hereafter explained. It receives
successive reinforcements, which are landed at
Aboukir, but it suffers much from desertion.
