fied city, and the residence
of one of the old kings of
Canaan whom Joshua subdued. At a later
time it was the home of Barak, and the
point where he first rallied the heroes of
Zebulun and Naphtali before leading them
to Tabor and thence against Sisera, whose
power was overthrown (see page 261). Among other events
of historical interest connected with the place, mention should
be made of the fact that in the eighth century B.C. it was
embraced in the region conquered by Tiglathpileser, King of
Assyria (2 Kings xv. 29). The western campaigns of the
