ART CHINOIS ANCIEN. RR ULE-PARFUMS EN RRONZE.

Les bronzes de petites dimensions sont, en Chine et au Japon, généralement fondus à cire perdue,
et nous ne doutons aucunement que le brûle-parfums de M. Crion ne soit obtenu par ce procédé. —
La couleur ou poterie en est fort belle, et la finesse du métal ne laisse rien à désirer. — La forme, au
premier examen, étrange et lourde, est cependant étudiée et d'un beau caractère. — L'objet entier
est une sphère cerclée dans sa partie supérieure de moulures rectangulaires qui lui permettent de
gagner peu à peu la ligne verticale vers la section du couvercle. Celui-ci, muni d'anses d'une forme
sévère, est découpé à jour pour laisser échapper la fumée des parfums, et laisse voir, au milieu d'or-
nements étranges, ces dragons à la fois fantastiques et naturels que les objets chinois et japonais
de cette nature nous montrent si fréquemment.
Trois pieds découpés soutiennent ce vase aux formes sphéroîdales.

Diminutive bronze objects are g.morally, in China an.l Jipon, cast in cire perdus, anJ wo have not
tho least doubt that AL Brion's parfume-hunier was obtained throngli tins very procoss. — The form
of the vase is handsome, and tho fineness of tho métal leaves nothing to be desired. — The
shape, which, at first glance, may seem odd and heavy, is howover wall .studied and lias a line
style.
In fact, the object is a sphère circled in its superior part with rect.mgular mouldings, which
makes it rathor nffect the vertical line towards the lid. This latter, furnished with handles of a
sovere contour, is open-worked in order to lot tho fumes of the sweet vapour escape, and tlirough its
apertures, amidst strango ornaments, are seen those dragons at once fantastic and natural which the
Chincse und JapOUBSe objects so frequently show us.
Three eut fcet support this spheroically sbaped vase.
