L'artiste, dans cette ,n this composition
composition,semble s'clre
souvenu des anciennes
horloges à gaines que
savons si, depuis, le
plâtre est passé à l'état de
marbre ou de bronze ;
toujours est-il que, pour
bien le juger, il faudrait
voir ce satyre grimaçant,
au milieu d'objets d'art
et de- meubles de bon
goût, et non au milieu
des plâtres et des ébau-
ches de l'atelier.
La Bg. '2177 montre de
profil ce petit monument
dont l'originalité, il faut
le répéter, est loin d'être
la seule qualité.

rous of proving the faci-
lity, skill and power of
bis boaster. — Did he
hit the butt?— Dnques-
tionably, yes. Résides
the composition and ar-
rangement , both most
ingenious, we seo hère a
great science in the mo-
delling, a buna fide fury,
the latter seeming to be
one of the salicnt and
characteristic points of
M. Piafs uneontroversed
talent.

provinces, jusqu'à nous.
Seulement, il s'est bien
gardé de rentrer dans la
rigidité de lignes de la
plupart de ces dernières,
où la sculpture joue en
général un rôle très-peu
important. — L'auteur
de la pendule que nous
avons sous les yeux, étant
sculpteur, a voulu avant
tout ne pas sortir de l'art
qui lui est familier et
montrer la souplesse, la
dextérilé, la science de
son ébauchoir. — A-t-il
atteint son but? incon-
testablement oui. Lu de-
hors de la composition,
de l'arrangement qui est
des plus ingénieux, on
remarque une grande
science de modelé, une
mtu de bon aloi et qui
semble un des points
saillants et caractéristi-
ques du talent incontesté
de m. Piat.
C'est d'après le mou-
lage en plâtre, et dans
