Jean de Bologne étant né à Douai, nous le rangeonssans hésiter
parmi les maîtres français, bien qu'il ait passé une grande partie
de son existence en Italie, et notamment dans la ville qui lui
donna son nom. Le groupe de l'enlèvement des Sabines est une
des principales œuvres du célèbre sculpteur.
