Ces frises représentant des scènes de chasse, sont gravées sur
le métal à l'aide de l'cau-forte ; c'est-à-dire que l'acier ayant été
couvert d'un vernis inattaquable à l'acide, et l'artiste ayant tracé
les dessins, l'eau-fortc est venue creuser, plus ou moins profon-
dément, chacune des compositions. Le verni senlcvé, la gravure
a donné le travail que nous reproduisons.

Thèse friezes representing hunting scènes havo heen etched.
That is to say : the métal lias heen covered with a varnish which
resists to the acid, and when the artist has executcd his designs
upon the said varnish, aqua fortis is poured upon it and attacks
the métal more or less deeply. The varnish is thon removed
and the plates give the ongravings wc reproduco above.
