L'Occident offre bien rarement dans ses tissas, ses étoffes ou
ses tapisseries, un ensemble de tons aussi varié et aussi éclatant
que ceux de cette étoffe de soie fabriquée en Orient. Le ciel
lumineux des pays chauds exige, en quelque sorte, des couleurs
vives, et les Égyptiens de la plus haute antiquité nous ont dès
longtemps habitués à ces tons chauds et lumineux, mais tou-
jours harmonieux par la façon dont ils sont disposés en se neu-
tralisant.

We very seldom ftnd in Western tissues, stuffs or tapes-
tries the variety and gorgeousness of colouring which présents
the above pièce of silk manufactured in the East. The luminous
sky of the oriental climates requires as if it were, the use of
vivid colours, and from the most remote times the Egyptians
have accustomed us to those brilliant and bright tones, but
always harmonious on account of the clever way with which
they are blended.
