XII9 SIÈCLE. - école française. LETTRES INITIALES MANUSCRITES.
On peut faire remonter au milieu du xne siècle ces deux
immenses lettres, dont la plus grande a 0m,i0 de haut. Elles
sont tirées l'une et l'autre d'une bible de l'abbaye do Clair-
vaux, aujourd'hui à la bibliothèque de Troyes.

Thcso two immensecapitals, tho largest has sixteen inches long,
may Wull bo dated as far back as the middle of the xulh century.
They are both borrowed front a bibl» wbich formerly bclonged to
