ANTIQUITÉ. — art étrusque. SIÈGE HONORIFIQUE EN MARBRE BLANC.
(AU PALAIS CORSINI, A ROME.)
Le palais Corsini, on face de la Faniesine, compte parmi les plus beaux de la ville de Rome :
il fut habité par la reine Christine de Suède, qui y mourut. Au milieu des belles œuvres d'art
que renferme encore la galerie, on distingue tout particulièrement le beau siège antique de
marbre blanc que nous montrons ici. La forme générale est à la fois caractéristique et imposante,
tout en restant d'une simplicité extrême. On se plaît, en examin nt ce petit monument d'une
haute antiquité, à le supposer un instant occupé, et par cela môme complété, par un de ces
graves personnages romains, vêtu de la toge nationale de laine blanche aux larges plis, dont
l'allure était imposante. Le dossier du siège est orné à l'intérieur de scènes de chasse de peu de
saillie, et la partie inférieure de rinceaux de feuillages et de scènes de sacrifices séparés par une
bande horizontale.

The Corsini Palace, opposite the Karnesina, ranks amougsf the finsst mansions of Rome :
Quocn Christina of liweden inhabited that palace whero sho died. Amongst the (Art treasures
yct to be found in ils collections, the fine white marble antique seat shown above is particu-
larly noticeable. Its gênerai outline, although extromely quiet, is nevertheless both characteristic
and imposing. While considering this small monument One would like to see it occupied and
completed might we say, by one of those grave roman porsonages clothed in his national white
woolten toga with its ample folds and grand aspect. The inside of the back of the chair is adorned
with very slightly raised reliefs representing hunting scènes, and the underpart with garlands,
foliage and scènes of sacrifices separated by horizonta ornamented bands.
