XVIe SIÈCLE. — orfèvrerie allemande. COUPE EN ARGENT REPOUSSE ET CISELE.
(AU MUSÉE DE CLUNY, A PARIS.) grandeur de l'original.
Cette coupe d'argent, au pied trilobé, est un ouvrage de Nu-
remberg. La coupe proprement dite montre six lobes pénétrant
habilement les uns dans les autres, et enrichis, à l'extérieur, de
figurines, de mascarons et d'ornements en repoussé. Le pié-
douclie est formé de trois têtes de béliers fort saillantes. Le goût
allemand du xvif siècle se reconnaît dans cet objet dont la forme
est assez élégante, mais dont le décor pourrait, à notre sens,
montrer plus de finesse dans certaines parties.

ïliis chiselled silver cup with its trefoiled foot is the work
of Nurnberg goldsmitns. The cup proper consists of six semi-
globes whose outside is ornamented with repoussé work repre-
sonting small figures, masks and ornaments. The piedouche
is formed by three projecting rams'heads. The german taste ol
the xvi'1' century shows itself in this article whose shape is
élégant enough, but whose ornamentation, in our opinion, miglit
here and there présent greater delicacy.
