La .collection de M. Cernuschi appartiendra un jour, on le
sait, à la ville de Paris : son généreux possesseur en a fait, ces
temps derniers, la déclaration publique à l'occasion d'un des
banquets de l'Union centrale des Arts décoratifs.
Ignorant les intentions généreuses du célèbre collection-
neur, nous avions, par mesure de précaution, puisé largement
dans ces bronzes admirables provenant tous de la Chine et
du Japon, considérant que si la collection arrivait à être un
jour dispersée, le public artiste ne serait pas fâché d'avoir en
portefeuille la reproduction gravée de ses pièces principales.
Notre travail n'aura plus la même importance, sans doute,
mais tout est néanmoins p:ur le mieux; et nous ne voulons pas
attendre davantage pour féliciter à notre tour le généreux
donateur.
