Ces lettres proviennent d'un recueil d'alphabets de môme
caractère et probablement d'un même auteur. Chaque page
d'alphabet est encadrée d'ornements de même nature et de même
style. La forme générale des lettres, les culots de feuillage, les
masques humains et les animaux dont elles se composent
permettent de faire remonter cet alphabet vers le milieu du
xvic siècle. Ajoutons que l'emploi de culots droits ou courbés,
qu'on rencontre sans cesse dans ces lettres, peut passer pour
une sorte d'abus décoratif.
