Les six objets ci-dessus proviennent apparemment d'une des
riches maisons conventuelles qui existaient aux Pays-Ras au
temps de la domination espagnole. La base de chaque lame
porte une inscription désignant l'ordre religieux représenté par
chacune des figures. On peut supposer que ces pièces figuraient
à la table d'un abbé ou de quelque chapitre de dames nobles.

The six knife handles figured above belonged probably to one
of therich conventual houses vvhich flourished in theKetherlands
during the Spanish domination. The base of every blade boars
the name of the religious order represented by the sculptured
figures. One may suppose that thèse articles were used for the
dinner service of a rich abbot or of some chapter of noble ladies.
