Dans la plupart des arabesques sculptées ou peintes par les
artistes italiens des xve et xvie siècles, on retrouve des souve-
nirs fréquents de l'antiquité. Masques humains, oiseaux, chi-
mères et feuillages sont inspirés des fragments antiques que les
artistes avaient sans cesse sous les yeux.
