(101.) Female Head, veiled.—The ears pierced. The
veil covers the back of the head, and is cut off with a
smooth joint at the nape of the neck, the base of which
has been fitted into a statue. The nose, part of right
cheek, and part of base of neck, broken away.

Ht. 1 ft. 5|- in. Temple of Apollo, Cyrene. Smith and Porcher.

(102.) Female Head, perhaps representing a Venus.—
The hair waved and bound with a diadem. The back of
the head, which has been made of a separate piece of
marble, is wanting. The nose and under lip are wanting,
and the fracture of the neck makes it probable that this
head has been broken off a statue.

Ht. If in. Found in the ruins north of the Temple of Apollo, Cyrene.
Smith and Porcher, Hist. Disc, p. 101, No. 39.

(103.) Head of Youthful Satyr, beardless.—A narrow
line passing round the head seems to indicate the position
of some kind of diadem or fillet concealed under the thick
tufts of hair; but this is not certain. Nose restored.

Ht. 10| in. Purchased of Mr. A. Castellani, 1873.

(104.) Head of Satyr, wreathed with pine.—The tip of

the nose has been restored, and the face seems retouched.

Ht. 11J in. Bequeathed by Sir Wm. Temple.

(105.) Female Head, wearing a mural crown, which
has been called Cybele, but may be the head of a city per-
sonified.—The sockets of the eyes are hollow, and have
probably been filled with vitreous pastes. The ears are
pierced for earrings, and the remains of iron nails to be
seen in the hair indicate that a metallic stephane, or other
ornament, was attached to the head. These ornaments
have, as usual, been abstracted. Eestorations : upper part
of the mural crown, the nose, lower part of the right cheek
and chin, and the whole of the neck.
