a patch, inserted on top of bead.

(179.) Bearded Head; nose restored; tbe surface of
tbe face seems untouched.

(180.) Heroic Beardless Head. — The eyes repre-
sented by hollow sockets, in which have been vitreous
pastes or precious stones. The hair in crisp curls. The
end of the nose broken away.

Ht. 1 ft. 2£ in. Bequeathed by Sir Wm. Temple.

(181.) Head of one of the Dioscuri, in a conical cap;
hair flowing. Broken at the neck ; nose wanting.

Ht. in. Found in the Temple of Venus, Cyrene. Smith and
Porcher, Hist. Disc, p. 102, No. 62.

(182.) Iconic Female Bust.—This is probably the
portrait of a Eoman lady of the time of Nero. The hair is
arranged in rows of small ringlets over the forehead, and
falls down the nape of the neck in a queue, with two long
tresses on each side. The ears are bored for earrings.
The bosom is draped. Eestorations : nose, mouth, chin,
and right shoulder. In the Soane Museum is a bust
(No. 779) very similar in character.

MOSAICS.

(I.) A Male Figure, clad in a short chiton and trousers,
anaxyrides, lying on a square truck by the side of a horse,
also lying down. This figure is beardless and has shaggy
hair. A green chlamys passes round his breast and right
