shoulder, broken away. The plate is pierced in the direc-
tion of its length, which is 1^ in. ■ the width has probably
been about 1^ in.

No. 8. Fragment of relief of female head, being the
right ear, and part of the right cheek and neck; a long
twined tress hangs in front of the ear, and down the
neck is a long tress, indicated by three lines ending in a
curl. Pierced horizontally through the crown of the head
and at the base of the neck, through the thickness of the
plate. Height, 1^ in. Thickness, in.

No. 9. Upper part of two female figures, carved in relief
side by side, and exactly similar. They look to the front. The
hair over the forehead is represented by two rows of nearly
vertical strokes ; on each side of the neck hangs a long
tress; the bodies, which are broken off at the waist, are
naked ; the arms are parallel to the body ; the right arm of
the figure on the left is wanting. At the back of this relief,
which is slightly concave, is a double line of wave pattern.
Pierced transversely through the crown of the heads.

No. 10. Thin oblong plate with incised design. Head of
the Egyptian deity Athor to the front, surmounted by the
usual headdress (hut), which represents a house. Height,
\ in. by ^ in. Thickness, T\ in.

No. 11. Similar plate, with head of Athor. Much
decayed. Height, 1^ in. by T77 in.

No. 12. Similar plate; subject the same, but nearly
obliterated. Height, 11 in. by Tsr, in.

No. 13. Similar plate : in very low relief; lotus-flower.
Much decayed. Height, in. by ysT)- in.

No. 14. Oblong plate. Lion, in low relief, lying to the
left, the head looking back. At the back of the plate arc
traces of an incised spiral pattern, nearly effaced; pierced
through the thickness at either end. Height, 1T7^ in. by
x7y- in. Thickness, nearly T^ in.

No. 15. Lion couching to the left; part of the head is
broken away, but he appears to be devouring some object.
On a flat base pierced through its length and at one corner.
Length, Hin. by 1T2(T in.

No, 16. Lion couching; both paws extending in front,
as on the Assyrian bronze weights ; under the base, incised
marks resembling cuneiform characters. Pierced trans-
versely under centre of body. Length, in. by x4y- in.
