(169) Another; identical. Height, 4^ in.

(170) Persephone, holding in her right hand against
her waist a wreath ; with her left she holds the skirt of
her drapery. The hair, waved over the forehead, falls in
wavy tresses on each side of the neck. She wears a chiton
trailing on the ground, over which is a diploidion fastened
on the right shoulder, and passing across the bosom trans-
versely from right to left, so as to leave the left shoulder
and breast free ; both the diploidion and the chiton have
been painted red. Later Archaic. Height, of in.

(171) Persephone (?), pressing her right hand against
her right breast, and holding in her left the skirt of her
talaric chiton, over which is a diploidion. The type is
similar to that of XVIII. (36) in the Kameiros series, ante,
p. 7. Later Archaic. Height, 5f in. Athens. T. B.

(172) Female figure ; on her head the modius, from
which a veil falls on each side of the neck. She wears a
talaric chiton, over which is a diploidion reaching nearly to
the knees, which she draws up with both hands resting on
her breasts ; the right foot slightly advanced. Later
Archaic. Height, 8 in.

(173) Female figure. Her hair, arranged in a double
row of curls over the forehead, falls in long tresses on each
side of the neck; on her head the modius, from which a veil
falls behind. She wears a talaric chiton, over which is a
mantle covering the arms as low as the wrists, and falling
in straight parallel folds nearly to the feet ; the hands
are placed against the body on each side of the pelvis.

(174) Another; similar. The hands about the level of

(175) Female figure; on the head a stephane. Her hair
falls in a wavy mass, cut off square between the shoulders ;
two detached tresses fall over the bosom on each side of
the neck. She wears a talaric chiton, over which is a
mantle which covers the left arm to the wrist; her left
hand presses against the centre of the body below the
