from the right, her right hand placed on the neck of a
hound, as if in citing him. The hound seizes the right arm
of Actgeon : in the background is seen the head of another
hound. From Action's head spring antlers ; the profile of
his body shows partial transformation into that of a deer;
on his rump is a deer's tail; from his shoulders hangs a
mantle behind. Artemis wears a short chiton reaching half
way down the thighs ; she carries a bow in her left hand ;
her left leg from the knee downwards, and the left foot of
Actseon, are broken away from the right side of the relief.
On the relief are remains of red, blue, and yellow colour.
Height, 4^ in. by 6^ in. Alexandria. A similar relief, but
in less perfect condition, in Schone, Griechische Reliefs, pi.
31, No. 127.
(59) Fragment representing a bearded male figure
reclining, his head turned to the right. He rests on his
left elbow, and has probably been represented reclining on
a couch at a banquet; his hair, bound with a fillet, falls
down the nape of his neck; his beard is long and pointed;
over his left shoulder hangs a mantle; his right fore-arm,
his left arm from the elbow to the hand, and nearly all the
body from the waist downwards are wanting. The model-
ling presents no Archaicism except in the treatment of the
hair and beard ; the terracotta has the right-hand upper
angle perfect; it is pierced for attachment. Clay, ash-
coloured. Height, 3 J in. Bequeathed by Mr. James Wood-
house.
(60) Draped female figure standing to the left, holding
up with her left hand a fruit to her mouth. Her hair, en-
circled with a stephane above the forehead, falls in a thick
mass on her shoulders behind ; she wears a necklace of
beads and a talaric chiton with looped-up sleeves, over
which is wound a mantle which conceals the form of the
bosom ; the left hand appears to be holding up draper}' at
her side, below which the figure is broken away ; the nose
is pointed; the type of the face Archaic. Height, 4^ in.
Bequeathed by Sir Wm. Temple.
(61) Game cock walking to the right. Has been painted
red ; the back pierced for attachment. Height, 3^ in.

(62) Female figure, dancing, with Jcrotala, and looking
back. She wears a tight-fitting garment with short sleeves
reaching just beyond the shoulder-joint, and gathered into
from the right, her right hand placed on the neck of a
hound, as if in citing him. The hound seizes the right arm
