(63) Group of two warriors fighting. On the left the
combatant is falling backward with both knees bent; his
right hand, which still grasps the sword, rests on the
ground. With his left arm he tries to ward off his adversary
by advancing his oblong shield ; nearly all his head is want-
ing, but he has worn a Phrygian cap, of which a lappet falls
on his breast; his beard is long and pointed; he is armed
with a cuirass; round the loins are folds of drapery. The
other warrior springs forward to the attack, his right leg
advanced; with the sword in his right hand he thrusts at
his antagonist's left arm; he wears an Argolic shield,
which has been painted yellow; from his right shoulder
hangs a blue scarf; his legs are painted red ; the legs and
arms of the other warrior are red ; his cuirass has probably
been yellow. The plinth has been blue. Length, 5^ in.

ings incised. The old man leans forward on a staff, looking
down to the right; his dog is a little in advance of him;
a mantle hangs from his left arm; his beard is long and
pointed. Very rudely carved, in a fine light-coloured clay.
