ridges traversed obliquely by a long moustache, and over-
bung in tbe centre by a long tuft growing from tbe under-
lip ; on each cheek is a patch of red; the pupils of bis
eyes, the eyelids and eyebrows are painted black ; the rest
of the eye has its natural colour; on his forehead wrinkles
are indicated by three black wavy lines ; his bair is green ;
his beard red; his ears are short and erect. Height,

(88) Similar mask; the face, moustache, and tuft, red;
tbe beard green ; tbe hair has been blue. Height, 2\ in.
(89-92) Four similar smaller masks ; hair and beard red.
(93) One, similar; hair red, face blue.
(94-97) Four, similar ; face red ; hair and beard blue.
(98, 99) Two otbers, plain. Tbe eleven smaller masks
(89-99) range from Itj in. to If in., and with one excep-
tion were all found in a tomb at Capua. Castellani.

(100) Mask of Seilenos, bald over the forehead, which is
deeply wrinkled; the hair cut very short on the temples;
the beard spread in a crescent form round the lower part
of the face, with a surface quite smooth, on which the hair
was probably indicated by colour ; the face is painted red ;
the eyebrows in relief. Height, 2-| in.

(101) Another, similar; the colours hardly visible.
Height, 21 in. Both these masks were found in a tomb at
Capua, with Nos. 89-99, already described.

(102) Another, similar. Height, 2\ in.

(103) Mask, probably of Dionysos. The hair arranged
over the forehead in many rows of short crisp curls, behind
which is a diadem ; the beard, smooth and crescent-shaped,
is traversed obliquely by the ends of a long moustache.
Height, 1^ in. Capua. From the same tomb as the pre-
ceding Nos. 89-99. Castellani.

(104,105) Two similar masks, partially gilt. Bequeathed
by Sir Wm. Temple.

(106) Gorgon's mask. Month open, tongue protruding ;
the eye-teeth very long; the tongue has been painted red ;
the bair arranged over the forehead in two formal rows of
spiral curls. Height, 2-f in. Blacas.

(107, 108) Two others, burnt. Blacas.

(109) Another; remains of blue colour in the hair.
Height, 2f in.

(110) Another, similar.
