JUG. Ht. 12 in. From Yortan, as A i, etc. PLATE I.

Slightly flattened globular body with tall narrow
cylindrical neck, which is cut away obliquely at the top
and turned out in a wide-flanged lip. The handle is a
ridged loop with sharp edges. On each side of the
shoulder are two groups of curved ridges, quadruple in
front, triple behind. Around base of neck is a ridge
from which hang a pair of pierced pellets in front and
a straight pendant behind. Below the handle is a
double ridged crescent set horizontally. Very fine
black polished ware, fired clear brown evenly (as if
intentionally) on lip and handle ; but over the back of
the body is an uneven brownish patch. (Fig. 3.)

JUG. Ht. 7 in. From Yortan, as A 1, etc. Pi ATE I.

Wide-neck type, as A 6, and with a very small flat base. Bright red polished
ware with white painted decoration ; three triple chevrons of narrow lines drawn
from top of body to base. The white pigment is dull, in some places thick and
in relief, but elsewhere it is thin. Near the base the red surface is discoloured
in a black patch edged with brown.

JUG. Ht. 10J in. From Yortan, as A I, etc. Corner of lip restored.

Narrow-neck type, as An, but the neck is cut away in a hollow curve
behind and almost level on top. Polished black ware with white painted
decoration of three four-fold chevrons, as last but with crossing ends. At base

°f handle is a mark incised when the clay was wet, 7j

JUG. Ht. 4 in. From Yortan, as A 1, etc.

The body is distinctly ridged around its middle, small flat base, very wide
spread cut-away neck. Just above the ridge are three knobs, and astride each
knob is drawn a four-fold chevron, in dull white paint, on polished dark grey
surface.

JUG. Ht. 6$ in. From Yortan, as A 1, etc. Plate I.

The usual wide-neck shape but with slightly flattened body and flat base.
Moulded and painted decoration, as last: four angular knobs and four triple
chevrons. The white paint has lost its colour, and is so thick that the lines stand
out in relief. Polished grey-black ware.

JUG. Ht. 3i in. From Yortan, as A 1, etc. Plate I.

Miniature wide-neck type, with ridged body and flat base. Just above the
ridge are three pairs of knobs, and astride of each knob is drawn a triple chevron
in faded white paint. Deep black ware with remains of polish.
