with a white slip. On this is painted decoration in black
colour, but both slip and pattern have perished on one
side, and the rest is poorly preserved. The spout and
neck as far as the lower attachment of the handle are
ringed with five broad bands, from the lowest of which
hang eight equidistant vertical stripes as far as the
shoulder. The spaces between the stripes are filled by
pairs of thin lines crossing diagonally. In front of the
neck is incised a vertical stroke. (Fig. 73.)

Globular body and beak spout, as A 339; hard brown clay. Except on
the base and lower part of the body, the surface has been covered with a
yellowish white slip, which has worn off in places. Painted decoration in dull
black colour. On the spout are three pairs of thin bands, with an oblong
pendant attached to the lower line of each. At the base of the neck are three
thin bands, from the lowest of which hang five groups of four vertical lines,
closed at the lower ends, and with the upper angles on each side filled in by a
solid curve. Three chevrons on the handle* which has a band round its base
and a pendant group of three lines ; plain line on edge of lip. Across the base
of the handle is a broad horizontal cut.

As Pliylakopi,

Shape as A 339 but elongated, with foot raised and slightly c
handle springing from the lip ; the spout is very sharply modelled
of base of neck are two conical nipples. Hard pale
greenish clay with smooth surface and curvilinear geo-
metric decoration in dull brown colour. Under the
nipples is a large spiral-ended bow with curve-hatched
angles and a similarly hatched crescent depending, and
above, in the hollow of the bow, is a circle containing
an eye. Under lower end of handle is a similar bow. On
each side is a large circle containing four radiating petals.
A pair of groups of four dots in each space between the
figures, a ring of dots around base of each nipple, hatched
curves around base of handle. The neck and body
above and below these designs are occupied by three
thin bands, and there is a thin band on the foot. Near
the base and beneath the handle ;is incised a mark, /\.
