Deep hemispherical shape with flat base and
four small bosses, like atrophied loop handles, set
at equal intervals around the lower part of body.
Light fabric, pale buff clay, covered outside with
semi-lustrous red-black wash on which is white
painted decoration : a band of linked double hooks
below the lip and three plain bands on the body. Fig. 94 = A 438.
CUP. Ht. 2 in. Provenance as last. Part of one side is restored.
Similar shape, fabric and decoration, without bosses.
CUP with handle. Ht. of body 2j. in. Provenance as last. One side and part of base
restored. As Pseira, fig. 1.
Slightly carinated shape, hollow upright sides curving in below to a flat
base. Roughly made, light brown clay covered
with lustrous black wash. There are white painted
patterns, greatly perished : two thin bands below the
lip, a festoon of four thin lines embracing half the

body and containing three close
us of thin
concentric quadrants, two hanging from the lip-
band, one resting on the keel of the body. On front
of handle are two groups of three thin lines. (Fig. 95.)

Tall body sloping from sharp shoulder to plain ridged lip and flat base.
A thin tubular spout slants upwards from the shoulder and is cut away
obliquely at the end, with square lip ; opposite are the stumps of a flat loop
handle, which has been restored. Fine light brown clay covered with a thin
black wash which is mostly worn off. Round the shoulder is incised a narrow
band of cross-hatching between two lines. Rough fabric, the spout is pared.
[The last two vases represent types which are assigned to the period of transition between
E.M. Ill and M.M. I (Seager, ll.ee). The following miniature vase is placed here because of
the exact agreement of its incised decoration with that of A 442. Similar incised miniature
vases have been found at Palaikastro (B.S.A., ix, p. 323, fig. 22, 1), and in the oval house at
Chamaezi CAPX- 'E</J-> 1906, pi. 9), which is assigned to M.M. I {Palace of Minos, i, p. 147).
