LATE MYCENAEAN.

H5.

A 822 (detail of lip).

the shoulder, in a wide band between each pair of handles, is a conventional figure
derived from a heart-shaped leaf with a fan-like appendage fringed with dots ;
below these are three double waved curves. The body
between shoulder and foot is ringed with thin bands,
three broader bands separating these at intervals.
On the flat lip is a double waved zig-zag, with fringed
fan-shaped flowers in alternate triangles thus formed.
(Fig- I93-)

[For the long tradition of the heart-shaped leaf see A 769, note. A very similar piece
from Thebes {'Apx- AeAr., 1917, p. 143, fig. 105) probably belongs to the Middle Mycenaean
style. This and the four following vases (A 823-6) must, with'A 812, A 858-9 and A 876-7, be
placed among the earliest elements at Ialysos.]
