and three parallel lines respectively, and the petals of an arc of short dashes
fringed with dots. The spaces beside the stalks are occupied by rosettes
consisting of a circle with dotted centre within a ring of dots. Groups of bars
on lip.
A 832. THREE-HANDLED VASE. Ht. I2| in. Tomb 21. Presented, 1872. M.V., Plate XII.
pi. viii., 43 ; p. 12.
Shape as A 829, but the handles are not ribbed ; one of them is wanting.
Between each pair of handles are three flowers, represented by an arc of short
dashes subtending an angle and enclosing hooks which suggest pistil or
stamens. The lines of the angle are shaped to represent petals. On the lip,
thin bands.
A 833. THREE-HANDLED JAR. Ht. i4f in. Tomb 4. Presented, 1870. M.V., pi. iii.
20, p. 7 : Dumont and Chaplain, Cerani., pi. iii., 21. One handle wanting.
' As last. Between the handles, groups of three flowers of similar type,
more conventionally expressed ; in two panels are also festoons of dots and
linked hooks. There is a group of three broad girding-bands between two pairs
of narrow lines in the space between shoulder and foot.
A 834. THREE-HANDLED JAR. Ht. 16 in. Presented, 1872.
Shape as A 829, smooth pale yellow clay with flaking brown-black varnish ;
ridged handles. The narrow shoulder-band is filled with close groups of
diminishing chevrons (flowers or shells), and there is a band of close chevrons on
the lip.
A 835. THREE-HANDLED JAR. Ht. i8| in. Tomb 36. Presented, 1872. M.V., pi. x,, 60;
p. 16.
Body almost globular, with wide spread foot ; the handles, which are not
ribbed, terminate above and below in knobs. Clay and paint dull brown. On
the shoulder is a pattern composed of a chain of fan-shaped flowers between
festoons containing similar flowers Above this, a row of linked double-hooks
and a waved line between thin bands. The lip is covered with paint.

p. n ; Dumont and Chaplain, CJram., pi. iii., 17.
As last, but with taller foot and neck. On the shoulder is a scale-pattern
composed of overlapping groups of concentric semicircles and containing parallel
chevrons (flowers). On the handles, groups of thin bars and chevrons between
two lines ; on the lip, groups of bars and chevrons alternately.
