band of linked spiral coils, some of which are
spurred ; on the lip, a herring-bone pattern.

Shape as A 949, with shallow ring-foot and a horizontal bridged spout.
Poor ware : dark brown clay, and dull black varnish ; the clay is filled with
mica particles. Below the handles and on the foot are groups of four thin bands ;
the lip is painted, and in the space beside the handles is a double waved
line. On the upper surface of the lip is a cable pattern of linked double-hooks ;
inside, plain bands.

The sides have a strong double curve ; convex below the rim, which is
turned out, then concave to the flat foot. The spout is not bridged. Dark brown
clay, with smooth surface and dull brown varnish. Below the handle is a broad
band composed of thin lines between two thick lines, and, in the space above
this, four oblique patches of fine lattice-pattern. Lower part of body painted ;
on lip, five groups of thick bars.
A 948. CONICAL BOWL, with spout. Ht. 3 in. Tomb 36. Presented, 1872. M.V., p. 16,
60a. Both handles wanting, end of spout chipped.
A very small example, with bridged spout and flat base. Pale yellow clay,
brown varnish mostly perished. The whole of the body from bottom of spout
to foot is closely ringed with thin lines and three thicker bands at equal intervals ;
two thin bands on rim.
