PREHISTORIC AEGEAN POTTERY.

A 960. NECKED BOWL, Ht. 2# in. Tomb 12. Presented, 1870. M.V., p. 10, no. 26t. Plate

The fabric is good, but the surface has perished. Light reddish clay; on
' the shoulder is a broad lattice-pattern of thin strokes.
Neck and handles black ; a broad band on lower
part of body is drawn in thinned varnish with dark
borders.

A 961. NECKED BOWL. Ht. 3-i in. Tomb 13. Presented, 1872.

Light yellow clay ; careful, fabric, with decoration
in dull dark red varnish. On the shoulder is a band
of interlacing loops. Part of the neck is broken.

A 962. NECKED BOWL. Ht. 32 in. Presented, 1870.

Fine brown clay, dull black bands on neck and body,
shoulder is continued over the handles.

Light red clay and dull black varnish ; the neck is painted black inside
and out; on the body are plain horizontal bands at wide intervals : and on the
handles, cross-bars.

A 964. NECKED BOWL. Ht. 34 in. Presented, 1870.

Fabric as A 967 ; the cross-bars on the handle are continued round the
body in a band of hatching.

A 965. NECKED BOWL. Ht. 3 in. Tomb 13. Presented, 1870.

Handles wanting.

Similar debased fabric. On each side of shoulder
between the handles is a strip of downwards-diminishing
chevrons. (Fig. 242.)

[This motive is a late survival of the chevron-flower which
occurs on the el-Amarna fragments (A 89S). The pattern which
originally filled the whole field is here reduced to an attenuated
strip.]

A 966. NECKED BOWL. Ht. 3 in. One handle broken.

As A 963 ; plain black bands on neck, shoulder,
foot and handles.

A 967. NECKED BOWL. Ht. 3| in. Tomb A.

Light brown clay ; poor fabric, dull paint. The
lower part of the vase is black, and in the broad
band on the shoulder is a coarse waved line ; on the
