FRAGMENTS of bowl with moulded decoration. L. 2-J-in., i\ in. Similar ware. Out-
side are white horizontal lines, and inside oblique lines in white and beans of clay. (Fig. 104.)

Fragments excavated at Petras.

HANDLE and fragment of cup. Ht. 3 in. Similar ware ; the handle is a flat loop and
the side of the cup is vertical in the upper part, and underneath slopes inwards to the base,
which is slightly set off. Decoration in horizontal and zigzag white lines ; on the top of the
handle is a white zigzag.

which is a square lattice in white.

FRAGMENT of vase. L. 3 in. Black varnished ground, and patterns in white and red
paint : joined spirals, hooked crosses, dots and bands.

MIDDLE MINOAN II (A 510-A 568).

A 510. BOWL with one handle. Ht. 35 in., diam. 5} in. From Knossos ; presented lay Sir Plate

Arthur Evans, 1906. Put together from fragments.

The body has a flat globular shape, with a second convex curve below the
rim. The edge is broken away all round, and the greater part of the handle is
missing. The rest of the bowl is slightly restored. The whole surface is covered
with lustrous black varnish. Decoration outside in bands of white pairs of
leaves, dots, linked crosses with discs at ends, and red and white lines.

VIII.

A 511. CUP. Ht. 2j in. From Knossos, as last.

Tall conical shape, as A 470, but the mouth is larger in proportion to the
height, and the sides curve slightly inwards. Decoration in dull red and white
on lustrous black ; single red bands at mouth and base, and on
the body thick hatchings in red, and thick and thin in white.
The upper part of the interior is also blacked. Fine light
fabric.

A 512. CUP. Ht. \\ in. From Palaikastro. Most of the lip is restored.

Shape as last, but very small, with wider mouth and more
strongly curved sides, and base slightly ridged. Similar poly-
chrome (Kamares) ware ; both sides are mottled with white and
red spots, the white mostly perished. (Fig. 105.)

A 513. CUP. Ht. 2J in. From the Gulf of Mirabello.

Shape as A 511, but taller. Similar ware, but heavier
fabric, and one half, divided vertically, is fired red instead of Fig. 106 = a 51
