trait of the painter Jacek Malczewski at the easel as a guest at Rozdół.
The exhibition at the National Museum in Warsaw made us look at Polish 19th csntury pho-
tos as works of art which appealed to us not only duc to their artistic merit but also as documents;
we view them as a fascinating record of the past and perceive in them both historie value and
beauty. I believe that in both these aspects of photography — as objects of art and as documents
— we succeeded in conveying the charm and magie of suspended time and the uniqueness of
this new field of art.
