The inventory of 1916 classified the painting as early 18th century Italian;
it was a pendant or other part of a large cycle illustrating the works of Christ
(see the following entry). In 1996 L. Slatkes expressed the opinion that both
paintings seem too good to be works by Bramer; he suggested a northern
Italian painter from the late 17th to early 18th centuries.
