Not often does it happen that the National Museum in Kraków dedicates such a large exhib-
ition, including a complete catalogue of works, to a contemporary artist. The output of Zbylut
Grzywacz - difficult, arousing controversy, but undoubtedly having its significant place in the
history of post-war art - fully deserves not only to be presented, but also to be thoroughly ana-
lysed by scholars. Therefore, we regard the conference devoted to his work as a substantial
contribution to the research into Polish modern art. At the same time, it has expanded our
knowledge of Zbylut Grzywacz in the field of his passions beyond art, although, in the case of
this particular artist, separating his art from his life defeats the purpose.
In her Introduction, Joanna Boniecka has described the conference in detail - its objectives and
results. It only remains for me to thank all the people who contributed to the conference - above
all, Joanna Boniecka, and also Professor Jacek Waltoś and Tadeusz Nyczek.
I would like to show my gratitude to all lecturers and discussants, as well as to Anna Kowalczyk
- the editor of this book, and Marek Pawłowski - the author of the graphic design.
Separate and special thanks are due to Doctor Jan Pątek, the person who enabled us to pub-
lish this materiał in a difficult time for our Museum.
