222 A TOUR THROUGH
enjoyed a greater degree of pleasure, and
suffered a greater degree of pain, than in
any other day of my life.
As my leg continues very much swelled,
I am still confined to my room, and moslly,
indeed, to my bed, from whence I have
written you the greatest part of these two
epistles, the enormous length of which I
am ashamed of. However, as I have still
omitted several articles, that I intended to
take notice of, I shall add a sequel to-mor-
row ; and so conclude my account of mount
jEtna. Had it not been for this abomi-
nable sprain, that holds me sast by the soot,
you probably had not got osf so easily; but
I am obliged to drop all farther thoughts
of climbing mountains, though there are
many things I still wanted to examine.
Adieu.
Ever yours.
