collected; we ever find our spirits more
languid, and our sensibility less acute : but
in the Sirocc wind at Naples, when the air
seems totally deprived of it, the whole
systern is unstrung, and the nerves seem to
lose both their tension and elasticity, till
the north or west wind awakens the activity
of this animating power, which soon re-
stores the tone, and enlivens all nature,
which seemed to droop and languish during
its absence,
It is likewise well known, that there have
been insiances of the human body becoming
electric without the mediation of any elec-
tric substance, and even emitting sparks of
fire with a disagreeable sensation, and an
extreme degree of nervous sensibility.
About seven or eight years ago, a lady
in Switzerland was affected in this manner,
and though I was not able to learn all the
particulars of her case, yet several Swiss
gentlemen
