The name of Athens is strongly impress-
ed upon the youthful mind from the very ear-
liest advances which it makes towards the at-
tainment of classical information, and is asso-
ciated, through life, with the ideas of whatever
is great in political character, or admirable in
science. It is not* then, wonderful, that we
should anxiously desire to be made acquainted
with as much of the primitive history of a peo-
ple, possessing in after ages most powerful
claims on our attention, as the records of their
country will afford : but here we have only an
