Plate XII

14. Statue of calcareous stone. Height, 1 foot 6 inches. Found in the spot west
of the temple (Golgoi).

Upper part of the statue of a harper. The nose is broken; the portion of the figure
from the waist downwards wanting; the back, as usual, has been roughly finished. The
figure holds a lyre under the left arm; a strap passes diagonally across the back of the
instrument and over the wrist; in the right hand the plectrum ready to strike the strings.
The upper part of the instrument was found broken off, and replaced; the left hand holding
the instrument is wanting; the upper ornament of the front piece is a lion's head, defaced;
the figure wears a head-cloth, or wig, covering the head, and falling over the shoulders
behind; no traces of color are visible.
