401. Calcareous stone. Height, 4 feet J inch. From the temple (Golgoi).
Male figure, with arms hanging by the sides, wearing a conical cap of an appear-
ance like knitted work; sleeveless upper garment; belt, kilt, and leopard skin. The
statue is broken off from the knees down, and the left thigh is slightly in advance. The
right fore-arm is wanting; the left arm, above the elbow, has been fractured by careless
diggers, and has been rejoined. The surface shows traces of hacking in various places.
Eyebrows and beard are modelled in relief in a formal archaic manner, and marked by
fine, incised lines, to imitate hair. The kilt, without flaps, falls from the belt in light
vertical folds; the leopard's skin is thrown over the left shoulder, and falls over the belt
in three ends, the head and paws of the animal's skin; the left grasps a small, indistinct
object. The arms have spiral armlets.
