over the left shoulder and under the right arm, is indicated merely by a raised surface,
without modelling. The hair is combed from the crown, and gathered up on the neck;
a wreath, with two rows of short curls in front. Traces of red color on the drapery.
Surface poorly preserved.
452. Statuette, of calcareous stone. Height, 2 feet I inch. Found in the temple
(Golgoi).
Female figure (priestess or suppliant?); the left hand holding a dove by the wings,
together with a small round box. The right hand is broken away; it held a branch of olive-
leaves, of which a portion is seen in relief on the arm. She wears a long robe, the
upper part of which appears to be folded back, like a diploidion, over the breast and
shoulders; the folds are rendered by a series of parallel lines, undulating across the figure.
Round the head a wreath with upright leaves. The hair is combed from the crown,
with a heavy roll of curled locks over the forehead and round the neck. The left leg
and the arms are slightly advanced. The nose is broken. The feet and lower part of
the legs are wanting. The surface much worn.
