Plate LXIX

454. Statue, of calcareous stone. Height, 3 feet 7J inches. Found in the temple
(Golgoi).

Figure with the forearms broken off above the wrist; the hands have been ex-
tended in front. Wears a chiton, with sleeves reaching to the elbow, the folds and
material indicated by parallel grooved lines. The himation, with broad upper fold, passes
over the left shoulder and under the right arm. It falls on both sides of the left arm,
in long folds across the body; the folds are modelled in slight ridges. The hair,
combed from the crown in straight locks, is bound by a wreath of flat leaves, with a
band of rosettes along the centre; in front of the wreath are two rows of short curls
over the forehead. The face and ears are carefully modelled in the archaic manner.
The nose is broken. The head was detached from the body, and is rejoined. The legs
are wanting from below the knees; the back of the statue is unfinished, but not flat.
Traces of red color on the lips.
