572. Statuette, of calcareous stone. Height, ioj inches. Found in the temple (Golgoi).
Male figure (Hercules), raising a club behind his head, in the right hand, as if to

strike with it. The left forearm is raised, and broken off at the wrist. A fractured
projecting surface, reaching, from near the wrist, down the garment, indicates that a bow has
been held in the left hand. The arms and chest are of exaggerated size. Short-sleeved
garment, reaching to the knees, with belt. The left leg was advanced; it is broken off at
the knee. The right foot is wanting. Fillet around the head.

573. Statuette, of calcareous stone. Height, iij inches. Found in the temple (Golgoi).
Male figure, with beard and twisted turban. A mantle is thrown over the left shoulder

and the right arm. The arms are by the sides, with clenched hands ; the left leg advanced.
Feet are wanting. Beard and left hand damaged.

574. Statuette, of calcareous stone. Height, 1 foot io\ inches. Found in the temple
(Golgoi).

Male figure (Hercules), with a lion's skin falling over the shoulders; the animal's head
used as helmet or head-dress. Short-sleeved garment, terminating above the knees with belt.
The right arm hangs down, the hand holding four arrows in relief in front of the garment;
and hanging from the same hand is the skin of one of the lion's hind legs. The left
forearm is raised, holding a bow against the body. Under it hangs an object which seems
to be a shield; depending from the forearm, a quiver. The left hand is wanting. Features
and surface worn and mutilated. Pedestal of irregular oval form. When discovered, the
legs, from the thigh to the ankle, were broken away, and the fragments collected ; in unpack-
ing the statuette in New York, these were, through carelessness, thrown away or mislaid, and
were replaced by plaster ones by the repairer, without the knowledge of the discoverer.

575. Statuette, of calcareous stone. Height, 1 foot 4| inches. Found in the temple
(Golgoi).
