291. Gray terra cotta. Height, 9 inches.

Upper part of figure clad in a tunic open at the right shoulder; over the head a peplos
wrinkled or ruffled a little in front, descending behind, and spreading so as to cover half of each
shoulder. Beneath the peplos the hair appears over the forehead in small bandeaux. Features
sharply marked, especially the eyes and eyelids; the pupils marked with a punctured dot.
Traces of a uniform color, probably reddish brown, over the whole. Slightly chipped in spots.

292. Red terra cotta, exterior mostly grayish from incrustation. Height, 7^ inches.
Fragmentary and rather rude head and bust, probably of Aphrodite; with hoop-like

crown about the head; the whole once colored red. Large portion on the left side of the head
broken, and reset; part of nose and of the left lower jaw and of both ears, chipped away; both
arms broken away at the shoulder.
