Plate XLV.

352. Red terra cotta, exterior now buff-colored. Height, 4iV inches. Found at Dali.

Fragment of bearded warrior ; helmet with close crest curving forward, and long cheek-
lappets descending upon the shoulders ; the lappets with small round pieces (rosettes ?) just
below the body of the helmet. Left arm broken away at the shoulder; but the stump as if it
had supported a shield. Right arm uplifted as if to hurl a weapon ; but the hand is broken
away. Body very long, appearing as if it never had legs, but was once part of a chariot group.
Lower part of body broken away.

353. Buff terra cotta. Height, 6% inches. Found at the temple of Apollo Hylates
near Curium.

Figure with rude cylindrical body not made on a wheel; thick neck; close-fitting cap on
head, with wreath of leaves in front, beneath which the hair appears in wavy puffs or rolls over
the forehead. Face Greek, finely moulded. Ear-rings, half a turn of wire with flat button-like
ends. Traces of red color here and there. Small abrasions on nose and hair. The larger
portions of both arms, and small portions at base, broken away.

354. Buff terra cotta. Height, 5% inches. Found at same place as last.

Figure with undulating cylindrical body; rude indication of feet, as if pushed forward
under a concealing robe, hinting that the figure is draped. Face Greek, finely moulded ; hair in
puffy waves ; on the head a high cap, its top flattened and bending over toward the left; with an
ample neck-screen, spreading widely on each side, falling in front of the right shoulder nearly to
the waist, but behind the left shoulder, though traces show that it once extended over the left
arm to the elbow. Right arm broken away near the shoulder; part of the neck-screen broken
away on the left; left arm broken away below the elbow ; slight abrasions at the base.

355. Red terra cotta. Height, 4,V inches. Found at same place as last.

Fragment of bearded figure with cylindrical body, perhaps a warrior. Head-dress, a cap
